Robert E. Mueller was born to Anna Rosalia Detlaff Mueller and Joseph Edward Mueller of Cincinnati (Price Hills) Ohio on September 17, 1923. He passed away peacefully on April 10th, 2014 at the age of 90 surrounded by his family.Robert's wife Betty Jean Mueller passed away in 1998. He remarried in 2001 and is survived by his wife Marlene Mueller, his brother Dr. Elmer Joseph Mueller of Birmingham Michigan, his son Gary Durbin, and daughters Connie Fenton and Lori Murphy, all of Eugene. Grandchildren David Fenton of Eugene, Eric Fenton of Springfield, Christopher Durbin of Lake Tahoe Nevada, Evan Zimmer of Springfield, great granddaughters Brooklyn and Bella Fenton of Eugene, great grandson Ryder Zimmer of Springfield, and his beloved dog Molly. After graduating from high school in Cincinnati he enlisted into the US Navy where he served as an Aviation Electrician's Mate second class. His service during WWII would take him to charging the beaches of Tinian and Saipan side by side with his brother Marines. Once ashore, he was responsible for helping set up the airfield where military planes would fly various combat missions. He once stated that he was less than one hundred feet from the Anola Gay; the plane that dropped the Atomic bomb.; at the time he did not know what it was there for, just that it seemed different than the other planes at the time.Honorably discharged from the US Navy, he would work for over nine years with Southern Pacific railroad as a pipe fitter. He moved onto working with the Addressograph Multigraph (A & M) Corporation as a technician servicing and installing various machines; eventually moving out to the Eugene field office as the office manager. When he retired from A & M, he decided to open up his own business "Mueller's Sales and Service", selling "Destroy-it" paper shredders; from the table top size to the ones that could shred couches. He eventually retired that business, and started to relax, and enjoy his retirement.Bob enjoyed the great outdoors, bragging to family members back east about the beautiful wonders of Oregon; and would take them on a state wide tour of the state when they came to visit. He so much loved to hunt, fish, hike, and drive around the state visiting all the landmarks, and secret places that are hidden away from the common traveler. All his life he worked with wood building numerous pieces of beautiful furniture which family members and some lucky friends are enjoying still. He designed and restructured his yard, and had it visited and photographed by "Sunset Magazine".Known to his friends and fellow parishioners as "BOB", he routinely joked about being Reverend Robert on Tuesdays and Brother Bob on Thursdays, or was it the other way around; we never could get it right; he always kept us on our toes. When we came to visit, he would look at his watch and jokingly remind us "our hour was up"Bob was a devout Catholic and a parishioner to St. Paul's catholic church since its founding in 1967; where he attained the position of head usher, and a reader of the first and second reading, and the Stations of the Cross during Easter Holy Week. He was always there to shake your hand or pat you on your back while you came forward to accept communion during Sunday mass. He would always have a friendly contagious smile and give a cordial "Hello how are you doing" followed by a personal unique compliment to each person."Viewing will be on the 21st of April from 4pm to 7pm, followed by the saying of the rosary by Father Dave, from 7pm to approximately 7:45pm at Musgrove Mortuaries at 1152 Olive St. The funeral mass will be the next day on the 22nd of April starting at 11:00am at St. Paul's Church, followed by a luncheon which will take place at the Rec building adjacent to the church. All are welcome to share the good times, memories, and special thoughts with family and friends; he always enjoyed a good story. The funeral procession to the grave site and military honors at Lane Memorial Gardens will follow. He will be missed, remembered, always loved, and forever in our hearts.Arrangements entrusted to Musgrove Family Mortuary.
