Walter Stampfli

Walter H. Stampfli Jr., 91, of Cottage Grove, passed away on Sept 4, 2013, due to age related causes.He was born on August 17, 1922 in Cleveland, Ohio to Walter and Wilhelmina (Pearson) Stampfli.The family moved to Ann Arbor, MI in 1933. Walt's passion was aviation, and with many part time jobs, he saved his money to take flying lessons. After he left Ann Arbor High School he furthered his aviation education and training. He entered the Army Air Corp, as a civilian, and taught flying to the cadets. In 1943, he was hired as a pilot for United Airlines and enjoyed a wonderful career, doing what he loved best, until his retirement in 1982.Walt married Milly Peterson, of Oakland, CA, on April 7, 1946. They lived in Los Angeles, and were blessed with two daughters. They had 43 wonderful years together, enjoying many trips abroad and in the U.S., until Milly's death in 1989.Walt re-located to Cottage Grove in 1994. He met Flora Bennett, of Eugene, in 1997 on a blind date, and on Nov 8, 1997 they were married. He was blessed again with a lovely wife and her wonderful family.Walt is survived by his wife, Flora of Cottage Grove; daughter's, Kathy Hastings of Mission Viejo, CA, and Arlene Green of Creswell; 3 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be sent to your charity of choice.Arrangements entrusted to Musgrove Family Mortuary.
