Mary Gump

Mary Frances Gump, age 88, of Eugene, OR passed away at home on Sunday evening, August 4, 2013.She was born on September 15, 1924 to Walter Elmer and Thelma (Martin) Greenwood on her grandparent's farm (Thomas O. and Clara Martin) in Thurman, Iowa. She and her future husband, Dale, graduated from Hamburg High School in 1942. She then earned a secreterial-bookkeeping degree and was employed in Omaha, Nebraska. She married Dale William Gump on Dec. 7, 1943 in Victoria, Texas where he was stationed in the U.S. Army. She continued to work as a bookkeeper in Houston, Texas. In 1948 they moved to Oregon to live and raise a family. Mary Frances was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother.Surviving are her husband of nearly seventy years, Dale; two daughters: Cathy McLaughlin and Pat Endicott (husband Bill) all of Eugene, OR; a granddaughter Michelle Spangler and two great-grandchildren: Liam and Katie of Portland, OR; and brother Jack Greenwood (wife Ruth) of Seattle, WA. She was preceded in death by her brother Homer Greenwood (wife Corinne) of Hamburg, IA.The family would like to thank Dr. Steven Koester, Cascade Health Hospice, and New Horizons caregivers for so lovingly caring for Mary Frances.Family graveside services will be held on Thursday, August, 8th at Lane Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
