George W. Sturgis, Jr. SPRINGFIELD — George W. Sturgis Jr. of Springfield died Oct. 17 of cancer. He was 85. No service is planned. He was born Dec. 22, 1925, in Salem to George and Elsie Sturgis. He married Charlene Mulkey on April 16, 1944, in Vancouver, Wash. He attended grade school in Alsea and high school in Albany. He served in the Army in the European theater during World War II. He drove a truck for Chem-Bond Willamette Valley Co., Gull Oil Co., Texaco and many smaller trucking companies. Survivors include his wife; two sons, George III of Springfield and Charles of La Grande; four grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. Arrangements by Chapel of Memories Funeral Home.
