Venda Stubbs May 10, 1954 a beautiful, independent, strong willed, baby girl was brought to this earth, filled with purpose. Barney and Wilma Stubbs introduced Venda Irene Stubbs, their last of ten children, to the world that awaited her. Venda Irene was born in Eugene, Oregon where she attended school at McCormick Elementary, Kennedy Middle School and Churchill high school until her sophomore year. In 1970, Wilma Stubbs, her mother (our grandmother) passed away. As Grandpa Stubbs continued to work long hours at the railroad; supervision was scarce. Aunt Artie Marie Eastman, Venda’s oldest sister and her husband with the blessings from Grandpa Stubbs stepped in and moved Venda to Oakland, California with their family. While living in Oakland, CA. Venda faced a no option policy and attended church faithfully. Venda also attended Fremont High school where she received her high school diploma in 1972. Not too long after graduating, Venda came home to Eugene to be with her dad. Venda enjoyed painting and fishing, she was a great cook and for some reason loved scary movies (and really liked to scare the little kids). ? She was a fan off fashion, beautiful big afros and the music was always on. When Grandpa Stubbs became ill, Venda and her siblings were there to care for him through his last days. In 1983 he passed away. Venda worked at a few offices before becoming a long time employee at LTD. On October 12, 1984 Venda gave birth to a beautiful baby boy, Paul Dominic Stubbs. Paul was Venda’s only son and he was the light of her life. Venda’s love for Paul was obvious. He brightened every part of her being. Sadly in May of 2005, Paul died. We can only imagine the heartbreak of his mother. The pain was excruciating and it was evident every time you saw her. Aunt Venda was fierce, not afraid to speak her mind, even until the end of her life. There were no filters; what you see is what you get. Venda had a dark sense of humor (locking us in the room right when the part on the exorcist happened and the girls head spun in circles, tying certain ones to the tree or trying to always scare someone). She also had a heart of gold and would help when/if she could.
