Phillip Swartz Phillip Dean Swartz, 81, of Junction City, Oregon, beloved husband of Joan (Becker) Swartz, died peacefully at home on Saturday, December 1, 2018. He was born on July 3, 1937 in Ellensburg, Washington, son of the late Carl J. and Rose Emma (Hottel) Swartz. Phil was a proud armed forces veteran serving honorably in the U.S. Navy Sonar Division as a surface sonar technician (SOG), from 1956 to 1960. He was employed as a union driver for over 36 years, retiring in 1997, and was an active member of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters, Local 57, where he held several officer positions. He was a graduate of Monroe High School’s class of 1955 and a 70-year resident of the Willamette Valley. Phil greatly enjoyed commercial fishing and spending his winters in Arizona. He also enjoyed traveling, and together with Joan they journeyed extensively across the United States and worldwide, with trips to China, Mexico, South America, the South Pacific and the Caribbean. Phil is survived by his wife of 61 years, Joan; his three children, Phyllis (Swartz) Mitchell, Matthew Swartz, and Stephanie (Swartz) Boeshans; six grandchildren; and his sister Carol (Swartz) Rasmussen and brother Stephen Swartz. He was predeceased by his brother, Gerald Swartz. Phil’s family would like to extend a special thank you to the nurses and staff of Cascade Health Hospice for their kindness and exceptional care.
