Eugene Metzger

Eugene Metzger Eugene Richard Metzger passed away on November 23, 2018 from complications following surgery to repair a broken hip. He was 89. His wife, Ida Mae Metzger preceded him in death. He is survived by two sons, Mark and Mike, five grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren. Eugene (Gene or Dick to friends) co-owned a barber shop at the corner of 29th and Willamette Streets in Eugene for more than 40 years. They started in a small shop on the corner and later moved to the Willamette Plaza Shopping Center that replaced the old Eugene Drive-In. They later moved their shop inside the Payless. He and his partner, Bob Bumguardner, ran a family oriented shop. It was a great place to share fishing stories and talk about sports. Together they served three generations of families in southeast Eugene. Gene was a navy veteran of WWII. He loved quiet mornings in his drift boat on Gold Lake and ocean fishing for salmon with friends. He was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather who cared about his family and found time for others as well. He will be missed. Services for Eugene will be held on Saturday, December 8, 2018, at 2:00pm, at the Lane Memorial Gardens, 5300 West 11th Ave, Eugene. Arrangements entrusted to Musgrove Family Mortuary.
