John Medina Soltero
April 16th, 1948 - April 7th, 2024
John "The Boy" Medina Soltero. Age 75. Our dear father and grandfather passed away at Tucson Medical Center's Peppi's House, surrounded by his loving family. Born April 16, 1948, in Tucson, Arizona, to John Cesar Soltero and Julia Medina Soltero. He was raised in Barrio Anita, Tucson, Arizona; Dyess Airforce Base, Texas; Zaragoza, Spain; and Kincheloe Airforce Base, Michigan. John's unwavering dedication to his country was a defining aspect of his life. He enlisted in the Army, where he became Chief Warrant Officer W-2 in March of 1968. He flew the Bell UH-2 Huey in the First Air Calvary. After surviving enemy gunfire and being shot down, he received the Purple Heart and Bronze Star Medal. Upon returning home to Tucson, he enrolled at the University of Arizona for three years until moving into management with the U.S. Postal Service for 30 years. He served in important roles such as Union Supervisor. He loved many things, such as San Diego, California, dogs, horses, guns, and meeting up with his buddies to talk about politics and military stuff. John leaves behind his wife of 18 years, Maria Susana Moon. Survivors include his three children and their families: Denise Soltero, Elizabeth Soltero, and John Blas Soltero; Step-daughters Vanessa Moon and Loretta Moon. His beloved grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews will forever carry his legacy. In addition, John is survived by his two sisters, Julie and Sandra, three aunts, two uncles, and many cousins. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him. A Catholic Funeral Service will take place at Our Mother of Sorrows at 11:00AM on 1800 South Kolb Road, Tucson, AZ 85710. Following burial of cremains at Our Lady - The Desert Cemetery on 2151 Avenida Los Reyes, Tucson, AZ 85748. A luncheon will follow.
