John "Jack" Aloysius O'Brien
December 31st, 1929 - April 26th, 2018
Jack O’Brien was born in New York City to John and Margaret (Reidy) O’Brien. At 17 he enlisted in the United States Marine Corp. Six years later he attended Officer Candidate School and received his commission. He attended night classes and received his undergraduate degree from the University of Maryland and his graduate degree from George Washington University. He retired in 1976 and moved to Tucson to obtain his law degree from the University of Arizona. He spent the majority of his legal career with the Arizona Court of Appeals in Tucson. In 1955 he married Marjorie (Peg) Tiernan whom he had known since childhood. They shared 62 years of life, laughter and love, raised a family and travelled extensively. Jack enjoyed spirited discussions around the dining room table which outsiders always viewed as arguments. He was a voracious reader, loved jazz, classical music and The Clancy Brothers. He respected all ideas but insisted you support them with logic and rationality. John is survived by his wife Peg, his children John (Darlene). Deirdre (Gregg) and Kevin (Patricia), his grandchildren Katherine, Brendan, Ian, Conor, Meg and Clare, his sister-in-law Ann O’Brien, a niece and numerous nephews. He is predeceased by his parents, and siblings, Eugene and Elizabeth Fuoto. Viewing and Rosary Friday May 4 at Bring’s Broadway Chapel from 5-7pm. Funeral Mass Saturday May 5 at St. Francis de Sales Church at noon. Interment at Arlington National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, John’s granddaughter is running the NYC Marathon to honor him and raise funds for the Joslin Diabetes Center, a charity he strongly supported.
