William Thomas McCormack

William Thomas McCormack, 72, of Gilbert, AZ passed away July 28, 2014 in Gilbert Arizona. William was born in Brooklyn, NY to Richard and Ruth McCormack. Bill was s student of the world. He served his country in the Air Force as a Morse Code interpreter stationed in Crete, Greece . He spoke Greek to anyone who understood the language. He is a graduate of Pace University in NY and studied at Rutgers University and Arizona Sate University. Bill was system engineer by trade and in his early years worked for IBM then several banks in NYC then to Bell Labs in Holmdel NJ. He continued his career in Arizona for 20 years to return to IBM as an educator. He was known in his field a brilliant and was nick named Super B(ill) at Bell Labs. His interests were broad and he shared his love of knowledge readily and everyone who knew him learned from him. He became enamored with Arizona, his adopted home, and volunteered at the Gilbert Library and Riparian where he also taught astronomy to young children. He was a great fisherman and landed a sailfish after a 30 year chase. But above all he loved to travel and fortunately he did to many lands: Tahiti, Costa Rica, Alaska, Hawaii, Ireland, Barbados, Martinique, Porto Rico, Scotland, England, Canada, Italy and throughout the USA William is survived by his partner of 41 year Rose Minetti of Gilbert, AZ; daughter, Kelly McCormack MA; sons William McCormack, TN, Patrick McCormack, FL, and Kevin McCormack NJ; grandsons Daniel McCormack and Shawn McCormack, NY; brother Richard McCormack, NY, sister Margaret Cassano,NJ. stepchildren Vincent Puleo NY and Elisabeth Puleo,NJ and Jennifer Geoghan and nieces and nephews and numerous friends and family members all of whom he loved dearly He was cherished by many and will be missed Memorials will be held to celebrate his life in Arizona, NJ and Delaware Services entrusted to Falconer Funeral Home of Gilbert
