Donald Franklin Vickers
August 11th, 1933 - November 27th, 2010
Donald Vickers Sr., passed away peacefully at home after a four year battle with cancer on Saturday November 27, 2010. Don was born August 11, 1933, in Kennard, Texas. He graduated from Sam Houston State University with a degree in education. He entered the army and was a sergeant in the honor guard in Korea where he earned a good conduct medal. Don taught school in Sanderson and Marathon, Texas, as well as Reserve, New Mexico. In 1963, he moved to El Paso where he coached, taught ESL and became an administrator of Adult Education in the EPISD. After his retirement, he moved to Gilbert, Arizona. He is survived by his wife of 50 years Patty, children Donald Vickers Jr., of Yuma, Arizona, Ronald Vickers of Corpus Christi, Texas, and Robbin Howey of Gilbert, Arizona, ten grandchildren, Stephanie Smith, Melissa Vickers, Trey and Meghan Vickers, Kyla, Kevin, Rylie, Reagan, Jordan, and Presley Howey, his sister Robbie Westbrook, his brother Glynn Vickers, as well as their families, and many more loved ones and friends. Services will be held Thursday, December 9th, 10:30 a.m. at Gateway Fellowship Church, 60 North Recker Road, Gilbert. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in memory of Don to the Mayo Clinic Oncology Department or Hospice of the Valley.
