Joseph H. Holmwood

Joseph H. Holmwood, 78, formerly of Mesa, AZ, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, May 12, 2023, surrounded by his loved ones. He was born in Erie, PA on July 8, 1944, a son of the late Henry H. Holmwood and Virginia Kohout Holmwood. To know Joe was to love him! Joe graduated from Penn State in 1967 as a proud Nittany Lion with a degree in Parks and Recreation, and immediately got to work. He was a trailblazer in the Parks and Recreation community, benefiting Montgomery County, Kettering, and Miamisburg of OH, and Mesa, AZ. Joe was a devout member of the Love of Christ Lutheran Church for over 20 years. He enjoyed starting on his next project and spending time with his grandchildren, but there is nothing he loved more than traveling the world with his beloved wife of over 55 years, Georgeann Wells Holmwood. Their favorite trips to take together were going back East to stay with his sister-in-law, Mary! In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Robert G. Holmwood. Survivors include his soulmate, Georgeann; their children Beth Personale (Robert), Robert Holmwood (Christine), and Kristin Holmwood; eight grandchildren, Anthony, Caitlin, and Natalie Personale, Lindsey and Jake Holmwood, and Elizabeth, Abigail, and Nicholas Steere; one brother, John Holmwood (Kathy); and many nieces and nephews. There are no words that capture the significance Joe had in his family; he will be forever missed. Friends and family are invited to a memorial service held at the Love of Christ Lutheran Church in Mesa, AZ on Tuesday, June 6th, 2023 at 2PM.
