Bebe Winterberg
July 23rd, 1927 - May 24th, 2023
Bebe Winterberg went to be with her Savior on May 24, 2023 in Scottsdale, Arizona. She was 95 years old. She was born in Chattanooga, Tennessee in 1927 and grew up in Cleveland. She graduated from Bob Jones University in 1949 where she met her beloved husband Milton Winterberg. They were married in 1952 and moved to Tempe, Arizona for several years before returning to Chattanooga. There she taught elementary and middle school before finding her best fit with high school students teaching English. She also completed her Master's Degree in Education during this season. In 1969, after a family move back to Tempe, Arizona, she began teaching at McClintock High School. She remained there until her retirement in 1990 after teaching 21 years in the same classroom. She loved working with high school students, teaching literature and insisting on proper grammar! Many students have expressed appreciation for the skills they learned from her. During this time she was also active in the handbell choir and the church choir directed by her husband Milton at First Baptist Church of Tempe. Retirement from teaching gave her time to pursue other interests including traveling in Europe, exploring the states in their RV, book editing, adjudicating community theatre for the AriZoni Awards, directing her church drama program, developing a large costume closet, starring in Arsenic and Old Lace, and serving as president of the board for her senior living community. She is remembered for her southern drawl, learning everyone’s name, collecting and sharing fun stories, and loving and praying for her family and friends. She is survived by her two daughters, Julia, and Jill (Steve). Other beloved family members include her grandchildren Chelta, Austin (Patty), Amy Laura, and Steven (Brenda) and six treasured great grandchildren: Brady, Tatum, Banks, Steven, Jakob, and Hailie. Other relatives dear to Bebe include Judy, Jeannie, Reece (Cindy) Tim (Crystal). She was predeceased by her loving husband of 48 years, Milton Winterberg, her parents Bee and Blanche White, her brother Jerree, and her half-brothers Reece (Ruby) and Rae (Delia). A private family service will be held at Mesa Cemetery
