Robert CampbellCRESWELL — A celebration of life will be held at 4 p.m. June 20 at Heidi Tunnell Catering Co. in Creswell for Robert E. “Bob” Campbell of Creswell, who died April 17 of cancer. He was 67.He was born Nov. 10, 1942, in Torrance, Calif., to Warren and Lucile Campbell. He married Holly Richards on July 11, 1998, in Eugene.He graduated from the University of Hawaii with a bachelor’s degree in scenic design. He served as a medic in the Navy 1st Marine Division from 1960 to 1963. He was a news cameraman for Honolulu television stations, a scenic designer for many Honolulu theatres and for Cottage Theatre in Cottage Grove, and worked as an independent videographer and editor.Survivors include his wife; a son, Mark of Maui; a daughter, Rachel Weaver of Honolulu; three sisters, Stephanie Piccolo of Eugene, Kathleen Stout of Fairfax, Va., and Christine Ishizuka of Walnut Grove, Calif.; and one granddaughter.Arrangements by Musgrove Family Mortuary in Eugene. Remembrances to Creswell Area Historical Society or Creswell Public Library.Robert was born November 10, 1942 in Torrance, CA and grew up in many states with his parents, Col. (AF Ret.) Warren "Beans" and Lucile "Bobbie" Campbell. He served as a US Navy medic attached to the 1st Marine Division, Camp Pendleton, CA. After the Navy, he moved to Hawaii due to his passion for long board surfing. After 40 years in Hawaii, Robert moved to Creswell with his wife, Holly, in 2006 and became involved in local organizations. He served as president and vice president of the Creswell Area Historical Society. An avid reader, Robert also volunteered at the Creswell Public Library. In 2009, he designed the sets for the Cottage Theatre productions of DEATH TRAP; THE RAINMAKER; and THE MIRACLE WORKER. In Hawaii, Robert joined the Honolulu Theatre for Youth staff as designer-technical director in 1968. He graduated from the University of Hawaii in 1973 with a B.A in theatrical scene design. He later worked for Diamond Head Theatre as staff designer and technical director. Robert then went to work at KGMB-TV Channel 9 and later KITV Channel 4 as a news cameraman. Because he was 6'6" tall, Robert was often assigned to cover parades and basketball players, earning the nickname, "Headroom". He traveled as a cameraman to China, the Philippines, South Korea and Sweden. He shot volcanoes, hurricanes, and everyday events. For more than 20 years, he enjoyed his work immensely. Along with his daily news job, Robert continued designing and building sets for numerous Honolulu theaters. He won a Po'okela award, Hawaii's highest theatrical honor, for his set design for A LITTLE NIGHT MUSIC. With characteristic enthusiasm and humor, Robert loved to explore in depth his many passions. He was a digital artist with shows in Honolulu. He loved surfing, movies, and a good poker game. He studied Hawaiian and Spanish. Robert wrote poetry and lyrics for his father's music. Although he was a large man, he loved to create small scale models of airplanes and his set designs. Once in Oregon, he discovered the joys of fresh water fishing and road trips with his wife and his much-loved dog, Lucy Louise. Robert is survived by his wife, Holly Richards Campbell; a son, Mark Warren Campbell; a daughter, Rachel Marie-Therese Weaver; sisters, Stephanie (Steve) Piccolo, Kathleen (Frank) Stout, and Christine (David) Ishizuka; one granddaughter; six nieces, five nephews, and many people who have been profoundly touched by his gentle presence. Contributions may be made to the Creswell Area Historical Society or the Creswell Public Library Foundation. The Celebration of Life will be held at Heidi Tunnell Catering Company, Creswell.
