Mary Louise Lightfoot, 76, passed away in Sun City, Arizona on May 16th, 2021 at 5:28pm. A celebration of life to be planned for a later date. Mary, or Snooks as she is known by her family, was the eldest of four siblings. She is preceded in death by her parents Mary Louise Scroggins (m. Blades) and Marion Howard Scroggins, both of her brothers, Ronald Gordon Scroggins and Marion Voncile ‘Vonnie’ Scroggins, as well as her sister Shirley Marie Stone. She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Lloyd Henry Lightfoot, Jr. (77), their three adult children; Summer Lightfoot (60), Cyndy Smith (57), and Jason Lightfoot (50), and grandchildren; Nikcole Thompson (30), Chase Dunn (24), and Cierra Dunn (22). She is also survived by her aunt Alice Carolene Withrow (86) of Rancho Cucamonga, CA and her cousin Mary Jean Cain (77) of Stockton, CA. Mary was born April 30th, 1945 in Upland, California to Lou & Sonny Scroggins and spent her early years in the towns of Sierra Madre & El Monte before moving to Azusa. The Scroggins family grew up near Valleydale Park and were next door neighbors to the Lightfoot family; this is where Mary met Lloyd and they married in 1965. In Southern California, the family grew to 5 and lived in Azusa, Riverside, Glendora, & Covina Hills before moving to Eugene, Oregon in 1975. While in Oregon, Mary & Lloyd raised their kids and she enjoyed everything the state had to offer- playing softball & volleyball, fishing, camping, having family visit from out of town, spending time with friends, winning at cards, and tending to all the animals on the family’s 16-acre farm. Mary also began painting during this time. After raising their children, in 1996 Mary and Lloyd moved to the warmer climate of Arizona. It was here that Mary fell in love with quilting. She was a gifted quilter, who juggled a million projects at once with each quilt being a testament to her ever-evolving creativity and her commitment to execute new and exciting ideas. She belonged to a vibrant community of quilters who will greatly miss both her art and her companionship. Mary and Lloyd loved to travel; they visited Portugal, Spain, Madeira, Morocco, all over the Caribbean- Bahamas, Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico, both coasts of Mexico, and 5 of the Hawaiian Islands. Mary was an unshakable force to be reckoned with, a pillar of strength and grit all the way up to her last breath. Throughout her life, Mary was a friend to all animals especially dogs, and she was devoted to her family and children. She was a mother to all, is loved by her family, and will be greatly missed.
