Memorial

Rodney James Thompson, age 58, passed away peacefully in his home on Wednesday, April 28, 2021, after losing his battle with colon cancer. He was surrounded by his three puppies, Tavey, Sheldon and Bailee, and his adoring wife Traci. Rodney was born in Sacramento, CA, on June 25, 1962, to his loving mother Patricia Ann SooHoo, and his father Jerome Anderson Thompson. Rodney was an identical twin; his dear brother, and best friend, was Jerome Anderson Thompson, Jr. Jerry’s passing on April 19, 2009, left a deep hole in Rodney‘s heart and soul. The two are now together again in heaven, once again whole. Jerry left behind two sons, Rodney’s beloved nephews Brady and Drew, and their mother Alison. Rodney also leaves behind many aunts, uncles, cousins and dear friends, including his many ‘brothers’ from Christian Brothers High School. He graduated from CBHS in 1980 before attending Sacramento State University earning a degree in Criminal Justice. Rodney spent the majority of his career in sales management. His caring personality and natural leadership skills were a perfect mix for him to achieve at the highest levels in his career. Rodney loved watching sports of all kinds, and could recite even the most obscure statistics better than any sports commentator. He loved music and going to concerts, Disneyland, traveling to warm-weather spots, cruising, and soaking up the sun during pool time in the backyard —enjoying life to the fullest at all times. Rodney never met a shirt, pair of shoes or hat he didn’t like. He was known for his huge wardrobe, many tuxedo jackets, his bright and varied collection of tennis shoes, and his sports team fan memorabilia and clothing. He always dressed to the ‘tens’ and had to have the latest Michigan Wolverines football jersey, North Carolina Tar Heels basketball gear, Boston Celtics t-shirt and of course his favorite, anything and everything for the Dallas Cowboys! Rodney was the kind of person that people met and instantly loved. His beautiful blue eyes, inviting smile, and infectiously upbeat personality and sense of humor defined him. He was known as Rodney Bear to his wife Traci, a name he embraced and adopted over their 23 years together. Family, friends and others whose lives Rodney touched are invited to a Celebration of His Life —on his birthday-- Friday, June 25, 2021, at 1 p.m. in the Chianti Room of the Tuscany Falls Clubhouse at PebbleCreek Resort Community (16222 Clubhouse Dr., Goodyear, AZ 85395.) Please RSVP by sending an email to [email protected]. The afternoon will begin with family remembrances, music and a slideshow; to be followed by snacks, drinks and a toast to Rodney, along with time to reminisce, grieve and most of all CELEBRATE the life, lost too soon, of dear sweet Rodney Bear. Condolences may be sent to 15454 W Shangri La Rd, Surprise, AZ 85379.
