SPRINGFIELD — Shelby Orville “Pappy” Williams of Springfield died Dec. 6 of age-related causes. He was 88. At his request, no service is planned.He was born Dec. 29, 1920, in Burlington Junction, Mo., to Shelby and Buelah Tillman Williams. He married Artie Lay on Dec, 22, 1941, in Centerville, Mo. She died June 24, 1996.Williams graduated from high school in Ellington, Mo., in 1939. He served in the Civilian Conservation Corps from 1937 to 1939 and served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a master auto mechanic, working for Janecek Motors until his retirement in 1982.Survivors include two sons, Charles and Arthur, both of Conrad, Mont.; 10 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Sons Shelby and Richard, grandson Adam Williams, granddaughter Roma Williams and great-grandson Adam Thibault, died previously.Inurnment will be at Springfield Memorial Gardens. Arrangements by Springfield Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home.
