Jack Dean Heysinger

Jack Dean Heysinger, Dean Emeritus and Professor Emeritus, Bloch School, University of Missouri at Kansas City (UMKC) died on June 4, 2018, in Phoenix, AZ. He was born to Ada Adelia (Hall) and Charles C. Heysinger in Clinton, Iowa, on September 3, 1922. He married Marilyn J. Nelson on June 11, 1949. Mr. Heysinger held the degrees, Bachelor of Arts, Juris Doctor, University of Iowa; Masters of Laws, University of Michigan where he was admitted to candidacy for the degree Doctor of the Science of Law. He was admitted to the practice of law in Iowa, Missouri and the U.S. Court of Military Appeals. Mr. Heysinger was Assistant Professor, Assistant Dean and Director of the Business Placement Bureau, School of Business, University of Kansas, 1949-1957; Dean and Professor of Business Law, University of Wichita, 1957-1964; and Dean and Siegmund Harzfeld Professor of the Henry W. Bloch School of Business and Public Administration at UMKC, 1964-1980. He returned to full time teaching in 1981 and retired in 1991. Mr. Heysinger authored articles and several textbooks in law and ethics. He served on the Board of Directors of the American Assembly of Collegiate Schools of Business and was an Adjudication Officer for University Administrative Hearings. He received several University outstanding teaching awards, other honors, and was listed in Who's Who in America and American Men and Women of Science (Social and Behavioral Sciences.) Mr. Heysinger served on the Board of Directors of several nation banks and corporations. Active in volunteer work, he held presidencies and other offices in YMCA, Girl Scouts of America, Shepherd's Center, and Rotary International Foundation and belong to the Sons of the American Revolution. In WWII, Mr. Heysinger was a Tank Platoon Leader and served in the Philippines and Korea in 1945 and 1946. In Korea, he was Personnel Officer of the First Infantry Regiment, Sixth Infantry Division. In 1949, he transferred to the Army Judge Advocate General's Corps in the Reserves and retired as a Lieutenant Colonel in 1982. Mr. Heysinger was preceded in death by his wife, Marilyn. Survivors include his daughters, Sheryl and her husband Andrew Caracciolo; Sandra Heysinger and her husband Richard Williams; grandsons Drew Caracciolo, Michael Caracciolo and his wife Alanna, Conrad and Colin Williams; great-grandchildren, Christopher, Chase, Bryson, Payton and Bailey; and his two sisters, Dorothy Leimert and Betty Jaber. A memorial service will be held at 12:30 PM on Friday, July 6, 2018 at Overland Park Funeral Chapel, 8201 Metcalf Ave., Overland Park, KS 66204. Visitation will be 6:00-8:00 PM on Thursday, July 5, 2018 at the Chapel. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in memory of Jack Heysinger to the Dean's Discretionary Fund of the Bloch School of Management at UMKC. Private graveside services will be held for the family at Leavenworth National Cemetery.
