Flora Gerg
July 23rd, 2018
Flora Gerg Flora Eva Gerg passed away peacefully at Lone Oak Assisted Living with her daughter Mona at her side. She was 92 years old. Flo was born in Monroe, S.D. to Dan and Belle Jantz, the 3rd of 7 children, and oldest daughter. When she was 6 the Jantz family moved to McPherson, KS where she grew up, graduating from McPherson High in 1943. Like most of her generation, she grew up in the Great Depression and World War II. She and the rest of her siblings came to adulthood with a sense of drive and purpose. They all worked hard, enjoyed life and loved family. It was there that she started her first business while still in McPherson: Little Eva Steaks. It was a small restaurant in a small town. Her brother and her future sister-in-law worked there. In 1945 she moved to Oregon to be closer to her brother Ken and his wife Millie. In 1947 she married Jim Gerg and had 2 children, Dan and Mona. After their divorce in 1972, she was married briefly to Donald Derickson before remarrying Jim in 1977. She was first a mother and homemaker, then a kindergarten teacher and Cub Scout Den Mother. She then began work again as a secretary for Willamalane Park District, followed by secretarial and administrative assistant positions at LCC and the U of O before deciding to once again try her hand at running her own show. After working as the bookkeeper for a local janitorial supply company, she made an offer to buy it. It was a long hard struggle of many years, but when she retired, the company had grown to 5 locations, covering the state of Oregon. One of her favorite quotes was "the secret to success without hard work is still a secret". No one worked harder. But the shining tribute is as a loving mother. And she was a mother and mentor to many beyond her own children and grandchildren. She was generous with her love and her praise. She is survived by her sister Vera Pearce of Topeka, KS, her children Dan Gerg (Robin Peterson), and Mona Gerg, 3 grandchildren, their spouses and families. A special thanks to Signature Hospice, the staff at lone Oak Assisted Living, and Dr. Arnaldo Padilla and staff at OMG for the compassionate care they provided. There will be Memorial Service on Monday, July 23rd at 2pm, Musgrove Family Mortuary, 225 S. Danebo Ave., Eugene, Oregon 97402.
