Memorial

Ron Slyter, 65, passed away on November 23, 2023 at Northwest Medical Center after a short illness and complications after surgery. Ron was born in Tucson, Arizona to Ronald A Sr and Judy Slyter. He was raised in Tucson. Ron attended and graduated from Canyon del Oro High School in 1976. Ron worked for his parents car dealership, Sierra Toyota in Sierra Vista, AZ before becoming a Detention Officer for the Arizona Department of Corrections in Florence, AZ. In 1980, Ron began his 20-year career with the Tucson Police Department. Here he found his niche in the Traffic Enforcement Division. He was assigned to the DUI Enforcement Squad and then tested and joined the Motorcycle Enforcement Squad. Ron loved being a Motorcycle Officer. He loved the work, riding the motorcycle and eventually training other officers to ride. Ron was one of the founders of the Southwest Police Motorcycle Training Competition, which was started to bring motorcycle officers together to exchange training ideas and discuss common issues with motorcycles, uniforms and equipment. This resulted in the formation of a statewide brotherhood of motorcycle officers. While instructing new motorcycle officers, Ron met Officer Mary Kay Jones. They were married in 1991. Ron retired from the Tucson Police Department in 1999 and became the stay at home father for their three sons. Ron owned and ran Lancer Valet Parking Solutions. Ron loved going to Mexico. He would head to their home in Choya Bay at every opportunity and planned to spend his retirement years living there. Ron is survived by his wife of 32 years, Mary Kay, daughter Shaylean, sons, Mark, Mike and Jonathan. He is also survived by his newly adopted children, granddaughters, Aubriana and Jocelynn and grandsons, Michael and Angel. Additionally, Ron is survived by his mother, Judy, brother Alan, 6 grand children and 5 “bonus” grandchildren.
