John Edward Coady was born on February 23, 1920 to James A. Coady and Pauline (Bode) Coady in Algona, Iowa. He attended country school and then went to St. John High School in Bancroft, lA graduating in 1946. After graduation he worked on a farm for a year and then enrolled in The Divine Word Seminary in Epworth, IA. John later studied at St. Augustine Seminary in Bay St. Louis Mississippi where he was ordained on March 30, 1959. He said his first solemn Mass in St. John Church on June 1959. Fr. John was sent as a missionary to Ghana, on September 8th, 1964.This is what he wanted ever since he was nineteen and started at The Divine Word Seminary in Epworth. Fr. John returned to the states in 1974 and was reassigned to the archdiocese of Los Angeles. In 1976 he was assigned as pastor of the churches in Chester, Havre, Malta, Whitewater and Inverness, Montana and remained there until he retired to Tucson. He died there on November 23, 2013 at the age of 85. He is survived by two sisters, Mary Koll and her husband, Bob of San Diego and Betty Hamm and her husband, Ron of Ames, Iowa; a sister-In-law, Mary Ann Coady of Bancroft, lA; a brother-in-law, Melbourne Haag of Ledyard, lA and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, James F. Coady and a sister, Ann Haag.
