Sue Desmond George
June 17th, 1927 - January 17th, 2014
Sue Desmond George, 86, passed away peacefully on January 17, 2014, at home in Tucson, Arizona. She was born Janet Suzanne Desmond on June 17, 1927, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Her parents, were Humphrey and Janet (nee Johnston) Desmond. Sue graduated from St. Robert's Elementary School and Holy Angels Academy; she attended Mount Mary College. In October 1948, Sue married Robert (Bob) George (deceased 1994). They made their home and raised their family in Beloit, Wisconsin,where Bob operated George Brothers, a men's clothing business. Bob and Sue relocated to Tucson, Arizona, in 1972. They were active at St. Odilia's parish and became instrumental in the formation of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church. Additionally, as a descendant of an original Mayflower passenger, Sue became active in the Tucson chapter of the Colonial Dames. Sue and Bob were members of Skyline Country Club and Tucson National Golf Club. Sue was a charter member of Les Girls, where her elegance and grace will be sadly missed. Sue is survived by her five children: Mike (Kathi) George, Chicago, Illinois, Robin Girardi, Seabrook, South Carolina, Tory (Jim) Kindley also of Seabrook, Chris (Susan) George, Atlanta, Georgia, and Jeffie (David) Dutson,Tucson. She will also be remembered lovingly by her 11 grandchildren: Joe and Rob Girardi, Alex and Adam George, Chip, Andrew and Ellie George, and Emily, Allie, Jake, and P.J. Duston; as well as by her great-granddaughter, Callie Girardi. Sue is survived by brothers, David and Harry Desmond; and sisters, Tori Smith and Sr. Janet Desmond, BVM. She is predeceased by her husband, parents, sister Judy Wolfe and brother Stuart Desmond. Nieces and nephews too numerous to name will remember her fondly, as well. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Sue's memory to Casa de la Luz Hospice, 7740 North Oracle Road, Tucson, Arizona 85704 or St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, 8650 North Shannon Road, Tucson, Arizona 85742. Mass of the Resurrection will be held at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Chapel (8650 North Shannon Road in Tucson) on Thursday, January 23, 2014, at 11:00 a.m., followed by a Private Burial Service at Holy Hope Cemetery. Arrangements by ADAIR FUNERAL HOMES, Avalon Chapel.
