Frances D. Kelly Hawkins

Frances D. Kelly Hawkins Frances wants to thank all the people who have helped her. Frances, 88, passed away on July 12, 2014. She was born on August 19, 1925, to Carl and Naomi Danielson in Denver, Colorado. An excellent student, Frances received a scholarship from South Denver High School to attend Northern Colorado University, which was known for its superior music department. After graduation she taught first in Colorado and then in Florida. Frances married Richard Kelly and had two beautiful daughters, Kathy Lou and Linda Sue. Frances continued her education, receiving her Master's Degree from University of Northern Colorado at Greeley. After a divorce, Frances and her daughters moved to Douglas, Arizona, where Frances taught elementary school at Pirtleville. She enjoyed Tucson and chose to continue her career at Tully Elementary School. As an outstanding teacher, she was awarded a Fulbright Scholarship to teach for one year on the Isle of Wight in England in 1965. Upon her return she married David G. Hawkins and taught at Sam Hughes Elementary School. Frances' life was devoted to her family, her teaching, and music education. She was a talented musician who enjoyed sharing her musical gifts with her students through singing and playing the piano and flute. From an early age, Frances regularly attended the First Covenant Church. She was an honorary member of the Women's Army Corps Veterans' Association. Her kindness and courage are missed by all. She is survived by her husband; her daughter, Linda Sue; five grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her daughter, Kathy Lou. A celebration of Frances' life will be held at the ADAIR FUNERAL HOME, 1050 N. Dodge Blvd. on Friday, July 18, 2014, at 9:00 a.m. visitation with services at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at 11:30 am at South Lawn Cemetery, 5401 S. Park Avenue
