William Max Moe

William Max Moe (Major, USAF, Ret.), passed away peacefully with family by his side on September 16, 2017, in Tucson, AZ, at the age of 74. He is survived by former spouse Connie, two children and their spouses, Travis (Shannon) Moe and Jessica (Jay) Sherer, as well as two grandchildren, August and Ivy Moe. Bill was born on May 9, 1943, to Max and Elizabeth Moe in Alexandria, LA. At Bill's birth, his father was a Lieutenant in the U.S. Army. Bill and his younger brother, Terry, were raised by their mother and stepfather, Allen Ingbretson, whom Bill loved very much. Bill survived his father, mother, stepfather, brother, and stepsister, Sheryl Lee. Bill graduated from Catalina High School in Tucson, AZ, in 1961 and in the same year, entered the U.S. Army. He earned his B.A. (1966) and M.A. (1967) from the University of Arizona where he met his wife. Bill was commissioned in the U.S. Air Force in 1966 and completed a tour in Vietnam in 1969. He loved flying "to his bones" and cherished those memories throughout his life. Upon returning from Vietnam, Bill and Connie married in 1970. After his military retirement in 1987, Bill joined the police department in Albuquerque, NM. For 17 years, he served as a police officer before returning to his hometown of Tucson in 2004 to retire. During retirement, Bill cherished his "Catalina at the Rincon" luncheons with his Catalina High School classmates. He also became an avid comic book collector and enjoyed reading the numerous books in his home library. He was devoted to many causes, including charities for veterans and animal welfare, Hillsdale College, the Arizona Historical Society, and Second Amendment rights. We will remember Bill's smile, sense of humor, intelligence, work ethic, patriotism, and love for family and friends. He is already deeply missed. Bill would want to say thank you to all the people who helped him along the way—those who loved him, assisted him, cared for him, laughed with him and brought meaning to his life. The family wishes to express profound gratitude in particular to Christine and the caregivers of Casa de la Luz Hospice, Mark and Pam Bertrand, and Kyle and Monique Conway. Final interment will take place in a private family ceremony in mid-November. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Best Friends Animal Society at https://bestfriends.org/ .
