Douglas Lee Myers
April 21st, 1959 - March 19th, 2018
Myers, Douglas L., 58. Born in Decatur, IL and was a lifelong resident of Tucson, AZ. Doug passed away on March 18, 2018 at Peppi's House Hospice following a long battle with Stage 4 Colon Cancer. He was surrounded by his loving family during his time of passing. A special thank you to his oncologist, Dr. Richard Rosenberg, Karen LaMaster, PA and their medical team at Arizona Oncology. We would also like to thank his surgeon Dr. Cybil Corning, Dr. Larry Lincoln with Peppi's House and his Bayada Home Care Nurses. Survived by his beloved wife Rosemary (Colombo) Myers of 23 years, his parents Donald and Ruth Myers, his sister Jill O'Rourke and her husband John, nephew Kevin O'Rourke, brother in-law Samuel Colombo and his wife Jaci, sister in-law Jeanne Colombo, family, caring friends and co-workers. He was an Instrument Maker/Designer, employed at The University of Arizona, Arizona Research Laboratories, Machining and Welding Center. Doug loved outdoor activities. He was an avid road and mountain cyclist. He competed in numerous El Tour De Tucson events and received many medals. In 2014 he received the Jim Elliott Inspirational Award, for cycling the 106-mile race, while receiving chemotherapy treatment. The award acknowledged his courage, discipline and determination. Doug was a skilled plane and ship modeler. He was an avid reader, knowledgeable in many subjects, and master in train and aviation. Doug was a Deacon and a faithful member of The Holy Way Presbyterian Church. Friends are invited to attend his Memorial Service; Saturday, March 24, 2018, 11:00 a.m.at The Holy Way Presbyterian Church, 4040 S. Bilbray Avenue, Tucson, AZ 85746. In lieu of flowers, gifts in Doug's name can be contributed to the Memorial Fund of The Holy Way Presbyterian Church. "The moment we take our last breath on earth, we take our first in heaven."
