GOODMAN, John K. Died April 16, 2018, aged 97. Beloved husband of Aline; father of John, grandfather of Sean Goodman and of Alex Lee and his wife Stephanie, great-grandfather of Piper and Brynn. He was preceded in death by his daughter Lucy. Jack was truly a man of accomplishment. He graduated from the Wharton School of Finance and went on to graduate summa cum laude from Yale in 1942. He enlisted in the Army Air Corps where he worked in Japanese Intelligence until his honorable discharge. A fearless horseman, Jack was a true cowboy and strove to perpetuate Western culture. Some of his achievements include being a member of Rancheros Visitadores in Santa Ynez California since 1947, co-founding and serving as president of Los Charros del Desierto, co-owning "Team Spirit", winner of the 1964 Grand National Steeplechase in England, co-founding the School of Racetrack Management at the University of Arizona, co-founding the Mountain Oyster Club and serving as a past president. He was one of the founders of Friends of Western Art, serving as past president and a member of The Jockey Club, serving as a past Steward. He was proud to be inducted into the "Hall of Great Westerners" at the Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum in Oklahoma City in 2014. He and Harold Ashton formed and operated Ashton Goodman Properties, where he worked until his retirement in 2017. A Celebration of his life will be held at the Mountain Oyster Club in Tucson on Saturday, May 19, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. Gifts in his memory may be made to the University of Arizona Foundation - Racetrack Industry Program, 845 North Park Avenue, Suite 370, Tucson, AZ, 85721, marked for the Goodman Scholarship.
