William David Bass
March 22nd, 1940 - August 16th, 2019
William David Bass (formerly William David Childers), 79, passed away peacefully on August 16, 2019 in Tucson, Arizona. David was born on March 22, 1940 in Tyler, Texas to Millard Hollis Childers, Sr. and Margaret Ferdonia Childers. He and his family moved to Tucson, Arizona in 1946. David graduated from high school there and studied at universities in Arizona and California. He worked as an English professor at private schools as well as at Pima Community College for many years. He said being at school was the best and most comfortable place he could be. He was an avid reader all of his life. David enjoyed sports. He played on softball teams for many years as the pitcher. He also was an enthusiastic soccer fan and enjoyed watching the Tour de France. David enjoyed spending time visiting with family and his many friends. He loved his pet dogs over the years. He was known for having quite the sense of humor. David is survived by his nieces Pam Childers, Sheri (Tom) Hettervig, Julie (Bob) Beck; nephew Bill (Erma) Brumley; and many other family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Hollis and Margaret Childers, and brothers Millard "Mel" Hollis Childers, Jr. and Charles Childers. David will be missed and remembered fondly by family and friends. A memorial service will be held at Catalina Village, Tucson, Arizona on September 26, 2019 at 2:00 PM.
