Dorothy Mae Bock
February 8th, 2017
Dorothy Mae Bock Dorothy Mae Bock, age 92, passed away on February 8 in Springfield, Oregon from complications related to Alzheimers. She was born in 1924 in Butte, Montana, to Estelle and Glen Luther, their only child. She and her father had a special relationship, enjoying one another’s company on many occasions. As a child Dorothy was athletic, playing tennis and enjoying ice skating. She graduated from Three Forks High School in 1942, and attended Montana State College graduating in Secretarial Studies in 1946. She worked one summer during WWII at the Boeing plant in Seattle. After graduating college, she moved to Sidney, Montana, where she was the secretary to the school superintendent. It was there that she met and married Cy Bock in 1948; she once remarked that she had the best mother-in-law ever in Ruth Bock. She and Cy settled in Sidney where Glenn and Nancy were born. In 1953, they moved to Great Falls where Barbara and Pamela were born. She wanted to have a big family because she hadn’t liked being an only child. They all moved to Nyssa, Oregon in 1957. Dorothy was an excellent cook and liked gardening. She kept alive the tradition of Montana women baking fantastic pies which Cy encouraged as often as he could! Dorothy was a devout Methodist, involved in the UMW ministry, and for many years, she cleaned the sanctuary for Sunday services. She loved being a part of the book club started by Clyde Swisher, and was an involved member of the area Garden Club, and volunteered at the Four Rivers Cultural Center in Ontario, Oregon. After all the children graduated high school, Dorothy worked in the school library for several years. In 2011, she moved to Eugene to live with Barbara and her husband John Chase. Dorothy is preceded in death by her parents, her first husband Archie MacDonald (killed in India in 1945), her beloved husband, Cy (1998) and son, Glenn (2008). She is survived by three daughters: Nancy Frain of Boerne, TX, Barbara Chase and Pamela Rogge both Eugene, OR. She also enjoyed the company of three grandchildren: Rachelle Roberson of Boerne, TX, Kara Walker of San Antonio, TX, and Sean Rogge of Philadelphia, PA. She was eager to have great-grandchildren and Rachelle provided her with two, Stephen and Michael Roberson of Boerne, TX. Dorothy will be remembered for her beautiful smile and generosity of spirit. Services are pending. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to The Alzheimer’s Association.
