Josephine Padilla Perez February 17, 1930- January 19, 2021 January 23, 2021 You have only one opportunity to pen an obituary for your only Mother. One single woman brings you into this life, and when she leaves it, something profound passes with her. Josephine Padilla Perez passed away at home on January 19, 2021, cared for and surrounded by her daughters. Born in Denver, Colorado on February 17, 1930, she touched the lives of others for more than 90 years. Josie, as she was called--Nana in later years—survived her husband, Juan Smith Perez, who passed in 2006¸ and two sons, John and Ron Perez, passed in 1992 and 1994, respectively. She is survived by one son, Ruben Alcocer, and six daughters, Evangelina Ramirez, Delia Beckett, Mary Perez, Sylvia Perez, Stella Perez, and Violet Siwik. Nana’s life and world was filled with caring, loving, and helping to raise her 9 children, 12 grandchildren, and 1 great grandchild. Over her rich life, she also served as caregiver and supporter for hundreds of children and dozens of families throughout her neighborhood. Looking for poignant quotes to describe such a life feels fruitless for a woman who was unique and singularly divine in her love for God and family. Her strength, devotion, and determination are in themselves the best message, and the lessons one might learn from her model of leading a household to pacing herself toward a higher destiny offer reflections on the blessings we hold every day. We might take direction from the simple, clear words Nana would offer, when recovering from family deaths and losses. “Life is for the living,” she would remind us . . . as is every breathing soul. ************************************************************************************ FAMILY MESSAGES & STORIES Nana, I believe that all the time and struggle you have gone through has led you to a beautiful ending. Although the lessons I have learned from you began at a young age, you have taught me so much. One of the most important lessons, is that family is the most important thing. None of was prepared for this great loss, but no one ever is. Thank you for surrounding us with so much love. You have left behind a beautiful legacy and we all love you so much. I pray for you every night and I love you Nana. Be safe up there. Alyssa Siwik Dear Mom, You have taught me how to love through your love of your children and kindness to your friends You gave so much and asked for so little You made me feel so nurtured, even though you had so many to nurture You endured so many challenges during your 90 years of life and showed grace and resilience in overcoming them You taught me to persevere even when the odds were against me. For all the lessons above and so many more, I am eternally grateful to you and you will always serve as a pillar in my life and in our family’s, extended family and the countless children you cared for. This has been your legacy. I love you and know you are in a better place. Violet Siwik
