Dale Thomas Soukup
October 15th, 1950 - March 13th, 2016
Dale Thomas Soukup was born on October 15, 1950 in Riverdale, ND and passed away, surrounded by his loving family, on March 13, 2016 at St. Joseph's Hospital in Tucson, AZ. Born to a large family, Dale grew up among fourteen brothers and sisters in North Dakota. At the age of nineteen, he joined the United States Army and honorably served our country as a medic from July 28, 1970 to January 31, 1972. Later, he moved to Tucson, AZ, where he married and raised his children. He worked in the concrete construction industry as a foreman, superintendent, manager, and estimator for the majority of his life. More than anything else, Dale was a beloved father to his children, an incredible grandfather ('Pa-Paw') to his grandchildren, and a gentle giant to all those around him. Dale leaves behind his two sons Daniel Soukup of Tucson, AZ and Dylan Soukup of Rochester, MN; step-daughter Rachel Pokorny Steele (John) of Tucson, AZ; and step-son James Pokorny (LuAnn) of Tucson, AZ. He is also survived by his ex-wife Christine Derrington of Tucson, AZ, who remained a dear friend to his last day; his brothers Harold Soukup (Stephanie) of Anaheim, CA, and Richard Soukup (Colleen) of Faribault, MN; sisters Janice Soukup of Loveland, CO, Alice Capp of Albany, MN, Pauline Hunter (Greg) of Sidney, Australia, LeAnn Smith (Sonny) of Tucson, AZ, Marcella Sultzbach (Harold) of Oklahoma City, OK, Sally Soukup of Tucson, AZ, and Donna England (Michael) of Montgomery, AL; grandchildren Stephanie and Savannah Pokorny, and Audrey and Charlie Steele; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Henry Soukup; mother, Agnes Soukup; brothers John Soukup, Roger Soukup, and Ralph Soukup; and sisters Anita Soukup and Beatrice Soukup. Dale was loved by so many and will be deeply missed by his children, extended family, friends, and all those who came to know him. A funeral mass will be held at 10:00am on Friday, April 1, 2016 at Our Mother of Sorrows Church, 1800 S Kolb Rd, Tucson, AZ. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Dale's memory to Camp Kesem MIT (P.O. Box 397219, Cambridge, MA 02139) for children coping with a parent's illness or death from cancer - or - Arizona Camp Sunrise and Sidekicks (Southwest Kids' Cancer Foundation, P.O.
