Richard Lewis Jones-Christie
December 2nd, 2009
Richard Lewis Jones-Christie, 61, of Tucson Arizona passed away December 2, 2009. He is survived by his wife of thirty years Sharon (nee Jones); son Richard (Sarah) Christie; daughter, Jennifer (Dean) Forester; grandson, Will Forester; brother, Bob Christie; cousins, Jonathan Worley, Sherry Christie and Betsy Christie and uncle Joe (Edith) Roberts. Richard went to Griffith Elementary School and North High School in Phoenix, AZ, and he graduated from Phoenix College with a degree in Fine Arts in 1968. He was a member of Phi Beta Kappa. In spite of the challenges presented by spinal muscular atrophy, Richard was a talented musician and painter, whose work hung in many galleries. Richard worked for Digital Equipment Corporation in Phoenix and Colorado Springs, but his life's work was fighting for peace and justice. In both Phoenix and Colorado Springs he was an integral member of the peace community, which worked for world peace, nonviolence and helping the poor. He was also a volunteer hospital chaplain and active in the Friends Meeting in Phoenix and Colorado Springs. Richard was a member of the United Methodist Church where he was a Sunday school teacher and gave occasional sermons. He was known for his wit and dynamic speaking abilities. He impacted the lives of everyone who knew him. He will be greatly missed. Arrangements entrusted to Desert Sunset Funeral Home (297-9007).
