Joseph (Joe) W. Atkinson Jr., 70, of Tucson, AZ formerly of Meigs and Ochlocknee, GA, died July 30, 2019 at the VA Medical Center in Tucson. Joe was preceded in death by his parents; Joseph Sr. and Katie Lou; sister, Neyrone Campbell; wife, Clarice Summerford Atkinson. He leaves behind a wife, Penelope (Penny) who he loved dearly; a precious daughter, Carol Lee (Russell) Heard of Bainbridge, GA; 2 sisters, Carolyn Stanaland of Pelham, GA, Agnes Peterman of Bradenton, FL; stepson, Jason (Marnie) Greggs of Tucson, AZ; 8 grandchildren all of Tucson; nieces and nephews. Joe served in the United States Air Force. He was a graduate of the Georgia Police Academy and was a Pelham Policeman. Joe also worked as a Purchasing Agent for Anschultz Corp, a Heavy Equipment Operator, Fruit and Vegetable Inspector for Florida. He later graduated from Keiser College and owned Florida Computer Technology. Joe was a member of Meigs Baptist Church then NW Southern Baptist Church in Tucson. The family is planning a small service and a festive fish fry for a later date in Georgia. His cremated remains will be scattered along with his dog, Pearl's on the farm he was born and raised on. Joe says: John 3:16 "For God so loved the world that he gave His only son, so everyone who believes in Him may not parish but have eternal life." Yes, even me! In lieu of flowers Joe would like donations made to your church of choice in his memory.
