Hector Acevedo
April 17th, 1957 - April 7th, 2010
Hector Acevedo, 52, was taken into the arms of our Lord on April 7, 2010, after a courageous fight with cancer. Hector was born on April 17, 1957, in Tucson, AZ, to Lucy and Ernest Acevedo. He graduated from Salpointe Catholic High School in 1975, and later, settled into his long career with the U.S. Postal Service. On September 27, 1986, Hector married his loving wife, Margot, and together they raised three wonderful children. While working at various postal branches in Tucson, Hector made many friends and always felt that he was fortunate to belong to a "fraternity of postal brothers and sisters." Hector was a devoted husband and father who cherished his family and friends. Anyone who met Hector quickly found him to be not only friendly with a good sense of humor, but also articulate, intelligent, and knowledgeable. He always impressed the values of hard work, patience, stability, and faith upon his children. Hector had a knack for storytelling but also loved to be humored, as was often evidenced by his hearty laugh. Being athletic, he enjoyed participating in several sports and he even completed three full marathons. He was also an avid fan of the Arizona Wildcats. Hector's passion, however, was music and, although he enjoyed a wide variety of musical artists and genres, he was particularly moved by the music of The Beatles and Rush. His appreciation and knowledge of music was infectious in that he was as much a teacher of music as he was a student. Hector was dearly loved and will be deeply missed. With a little help from our friends, we will get through the pain of his absence; but, until we see him again, Hector will always remain in the limelight, closer to the heart. Hector is survived by his parents; wife, Margot; daughters, Suzanne and Missy; son, Danny; siblings, Ernie (Linda) Acevedo, Norma Coronado, Barb Moreno and Dave (Trinket) Acevedo; and several nieces and nephews. We are forever grateful for the comfort and thoughtful gestures of Hector's postal brothers, and especially his best friends- Glen Cioca and Ed Coates. He was proud to be your friend and to "fly with the Eagles." We also extend our heartfelt thanks to Dr. Ahmad and the kind and caring staff at Arizona Oncology. Visitation will be at DESERT SUNSET FUNERAL HOME, 3081 W. Orange Grove Rd. from 5:00-8:00 p.m., Monday, April 12, 2010, with a rosary recited at 7:00 p.m. Mass will be at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, April 13, 2010 at SS Peter & Paul Parish, 1946 E. Lee St., with burial to follow at Holy Hope Cemetery, 3555 N. Oracle Rd. In lieu of flowers, it is requested that a donation be made to the American Cancer Society.
