Alfonso Ramirez

Born on October 16th, 1947 in Ciudad Juarez, Mexico, Alfonso passed away at the age of 63 on July 7th, 2011 surrounded by family after a courageous four year battle with cancer. Even in his last moments, he continued to show us how to accept the inevitable changes of life with dignity and grace. Alfonso is preceded in death by his father, Apolonio. He is survived by his mother Maria Teresa, his sister Raquel, brothers, Adrian and Javier, his three children, Chris, Alfonso Jr., Victoria and their mother Delia, as well as 6 grandchildren he absolutely adored; Samantha, Sophia, Tonántzin, Isabella, Xitlali, and baby Andres. Alfonso was a proud and patriotic veteran who served in the U.S. Air Force from 1966-1970 during the Vietnam War. He then worked for Hughes Aircraft for over 20 years before returning to the University of Arizona to receive his Bachelor’s Degree in Education, graduating Cum Laude in 1996. Alfonso then taught Physical Education at Los Amigos Elementary School for 14 years up until it was impossible for him to continue. Alfonso was a charismatic, affectionate and humble man. He appreciated all his blessings and will be greatly missed. To celebrate his life, a one hour visitation followed by a vigil service will occur on July 14th at Hillcrest Funeral Home from 6:00pm-9:00pm. Mass will be held July 15th at St. Raphael Church at 12:00pm, followed by a Memorial service at Ft. Bliss at 2:00pm.
