Betty Jean May Truax Smith passed away on January 26, 2024, in Tucson, AZ. She was 94. Betty was born on August 1, 1929, in Dearborn, MI, the daughter of Clarence Vence Solomon Truax and Ada May (Meyers) Truax. Her father worked for a time with the Ford Motor Company and then owned a grocery store. They saved their monies and war ration coupons to move to Tucson during the war. Betty went to Amphi High School where she met and married her high school sweetheart, Paul Raymond Smith, on May 1, 1948, in Tucson, AZ. Paul was a successful painting contractor for many years. Betty was an accomplished homemaker in cooking, sewing, knitting, and crocheting. She loved playing her piano. Betty and Paul traveled extensively around the United States and Canada in retirement. She is survived by her loving husband, Paul, of 75 years; her three children: David Smith (Patricia) of Littleton, CO; Nancy Dorsey (John) of Tucson, AZ; and Lynne Petty (Brian) of Tucson, AZ. She has 6 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. She will be greatly missed. She was preceded in death by her parents, and her siblings, Ada Mary Meadows and Clarence (Tom) Truax.
