Betty Lou Jungen
April 5th, 1941 - December 23rd, 2020
Betty Lou Jungen, 79, of Tucson, AZ, passed away December 23, 2020, at home with her husband and family by her side. Betty was born to Gerard Levi (d. 2000) and Marion Lucille Dandurand (d. 2003), on April 5, 1941 in Bourbonnais Township, IL. Betty enjoyed the love of her siblings - sister: Barbara Kay Anderson of Tucson, Arizona; and two brothers: Gerard Thomas Dandurand (d. 2005); and James Frederick Dandurand of Holiday, FL. Gerard and Marion moved the family from Kankakee, Illinois to Tucson, Arizona in the mid-1950’s. Betty graduated from Catalina HS in Tucson in 1959. On March 13, 1959, Gerard arranged for one of his machine shop clients, William Eugene (Bill) Jungen, to take Betty on a Coke date. Betty and Bill were immediately smitten with each other, and on Nov. 26, 1959 they were married at St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Tucson. Just this past Thanksgiving Day, the couple celebrated their 61st Anniversary in the very same church with their five children, grandchildren, spouses and significant others. Bill and the family treasure the recent memory of that joyous Thanksgiving Day celebration. In addition to her loving husband, Bill, Betty is survived by their five children: Janet Lee Cline (Mike) of Sierra Vista, AZ; William Dwaine Jungen (Carolyn) of Tucson, AZ; Michael Gerard Jungen (Fhanor Lenis) of Belle Isle, FL; Jacalyn Kay Livingstone (Ralph) of Lake LA, CA; and Julie Ann Alvira (Ruben) of Tucson, AZ. She is also survived by nine grandchildren and step-grandchildren: Michael Livingstone (Molly Liles); Kirsten Myhres (Tyson); Alton Livingstone (Victoria); Anna Livingstone; Aimee Alvira (Sam Kinslow); Alex Alvira; Jason Livingstone; Ryan Cline (Tiffany); and Jaclyn Hughes (Mike); great-grandson Mykyl Jungen (Graycie); and seven step-great-grandchildren: Lauren, Aubrey, Trevor, MacKenna, Parker, Kyla, and Autumn. Betty loved traveling with Bill - often to see family, explore the world or cruise the oceans. “Out-Bound Travel” was her playful travel arranging moniker. She was immensely proud of her family and loved ones. She unfailingly embraced friends old and new and each would be greeted exuberantly with joyful hugs! Her Catholic Faith was central in her life, in her relationship with Bill and in her vibrant engagement of life. The Rosary meant a great deal to her, and she treasured each rosary from special places and people in her life. She was the Sunshine in our lives - spirituality and literally! For many years when her children were younger, Betty embodied Sunshine the Clown for birthdays, celebrations and church festivals at Our Mother of Sorrows School and Church. The joy and spirit of Sunshine will be a lasting memory for all who’s lives she touched. Visitation will be from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM with a Rosary recited at 6:00 PM on Tuesday January 5, 2021 at Bring's Broadway Chapel 6910 East Broadway Boulevard, Tucson. Family and friends are welcome to visit; however, capacity is limited to 10 people at any time due to COVID-19 restrictions. Friends are encouraged to pay their respects virtually at the following link: Betty Lou Jungen (funeralvue.com). A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10:00 AM on Wednesday January 6, 2021 at Our Mother of Sorrows Catholic Church 1800 South Kolb Road, Tucson. Burial to follow in Our Lady of The Desert Cemetery, Tucson, where Betty will be laid to rest next to her parents and near her brother Tom. Due to COVID-19 issues, attendance at the Mass and Burial will be limited to family members only.
