Steven "Steve" Charles Schumacher
August 13th, 1953 - July 14th, 2021
On the evening of Wednesday, July 14, 2021, Steve Schumacher departed this earth at the age of 67 years, 11 months. Steve was born to John J. and Wanda Schumacher of Coon Rapids, Iowa. After high school, Steve attended Ellsworth Junior College in Iowa Falls, then the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls. It was at college where Steve met the love of his life LuAnn (Rappold). The couple were married in 1977 and together raised two children, Jennifer and Bradley. The family moved from Waterloo, Iowa to Tucson, Arizona in 1986. During his career, Steve worked in sales for Van Meter in Waterloo, Iowa and Brown Wholesale in Tucson until his retirement in 2019. Throughout his life Steve was always athletic and active, participating in many sports and sporting activities. Coaching little league was among Steve’s passions, and provided him much enjoyment through the years while helping to develop young players. Steve was an avid golfer and water skier who greatly enjoyed time on the links and lakeland boating with family and friends throughout his lifetime. Steve loved the peace and beauty of the desert. Time spent there riding horses with LuAnn brought them both great joy and fed the soul of Steve’s inner cowboy. Steve’s greatest love was for his family and spending time together, whether at a baseball game, in the saddle or the backyard for a get together. Being a grandfather to Nathan, Ella and Monty made Steve’s life complete. He was a wonderful grandpa. Steve could talk to anyone and his wonderful sense of humor and quick wit was ever present in his personal and professional life. Building relationships was natural for Steve, and he developed cherished friendships that lasted a lifetime. Wherever Steve was found, smiles and laughter accompanied. Steve was preceded in death by his parents and an older brother, Ken. He is survived by his wife LuAnn, their 2 children, Jenny (Nick) Rienstra and Bradley (Katie) Schumacher, 3 grandchildren, Nathan, Ella and Monty, a brother, Jeff, as well as cousins, nieces and nephews. A celebration of Steve‘s life will be held on Wednesday, July 21st, 2021 at 3:00 PM at the Tanque Verde Lutheran Church in Tucson.
