George A. Franklin
June 14th, 1939 - October 18th, 2017
GEORGE A. FRANKLIN 78, of Tucson, passed away October 18, 2017. He was born June 14, 1939 in Worcester, MA to Maurice Franklin (deceased 8-25-72) and Vera (Becker) Franklin (deceased 5-3-94). George was an Architectural Engineer who was President for 25 years of Space Planning Associates, a consulting firm in Massachusetts. During this time he worked as a Construction Manager of large projects in the Northeast. He moved his family to New Jersey to become Vice President of Herrod Construction Company and General Manager of Forsgate Industrial Park. In 1995 he joined the City of Tucson in the Facilities Design and Management Department where he developed the new Construction Management Section as well as handling the responsibilities of City Architect. Due to illness, he took early retirement in 1998. He had received his degrees from Wentworth Institute of Technology, University of Miami, University of Hartford and the Hartford Graduate Center. George was a Construction Manager for Turner Construction Company, Fontaine Bros., and for Gralia Construction. Some of his projects included John F. Kennedy Library, Mass Mutual Insurance Company, Marriott Hotel in Fort Lee, NJ, and about 100 projects throughout New England, New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania. He also designed over 200 projects in his private consulting company. He was a 50 year member of the Masons and Chairman of various Town Boards and a Den Leader for the Boy Scouts in Wilbraham, MA. He was also a member of the International Facility Management Association (IFMA). George is survived by Barbara, his loving wife of 57 years, son, Jerome (Sheila) of E. Longmeadow, MA, son, Gregg of Wilbraham, MA, daughter, Lauri Beth (Curtis) of Tucson, AZ, 8 grandchildren, Sisters-in-law, Gail and Fran, a niece and nephews, half sisters, and many cousins, all who loved him and will dearly miss him. He was preceded in death by his brother Fred. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Shriner's Hospitals, Alzheimer's or Dysautonomia International. Also, enjoy a bowl of ice cream in his honor- it was his favorite! Final resting place with be at All Faiths Memorial Park. A Celebration of Life will be held at a future time.
