Daniel P. York (Dan), 72, of Tucson, Arizona, passed away peacefully at Peppi's House (Tucson Medical Center Inpatient Hospice) on Thursday, October 5, 2017 at 5:15 a.m. A Memorial Service to honor Dan will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, October 17, 2017 at Bring's Broadway Chapel. Burial will follow the funeral at All Faith's Memorial Park Cemetery at 12:00 p.m. Service arrangements are being handled by Bring's Broadway Chapel.Dan was born in Benton. Kentucky on August 6, 1945. He graduated from Marshall High School and continued on to proudly serve in the United States Marine Corps. Dan was married to Mary Jane York on February 14, 1981 in Battle Creek, Michigan and after visiting Tucson, Arizona on their honeymoon, promptly moved there approximately six weeks later. They fell in love with the desert and the mountains and both needed a fresh start. They were married for 36 years. Dan worked as Correctional Officer II for the Arizona Department of Corrections from August 1986 through January 2002. He loved old western movies, particularly those starring John Wayne, and enjoyed visiting Tombstone, Arizona and the Desert Museum. He treasured his horses. Dan enjoyed horticulture and farming and had a great love of animals. He also served on the Vail School District Board for several years. Daniel is survived by his wife Mary Jane York, his grandchildren Ashley Sams, Amber (Jamy) Hickey, Cody York, Travis (Haley) Sams and Savanna York; his oldest sister Annis Arant; children Stephanie (Richard) Sams, Stacie James, and Suzanne York; great grandchildren Carter, Tucker, Ryder, Emmy and Reagan; three children from a previous marriage and other family and friends. Dan is preceded in death by his parents Jesse Latus and Odry Jewel York; brothers Alvin, Jerry, Jesse (Neal) and sisters Shirley and Lena. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to Wounded Warrior Project at www.woundedwarriorproject.org (a charity close to his heart). The family wishes to thank the United States Marine Corps and Molly Johnson for honoring Dan's memory.
