FISCEL, Karen Sue, Karen left peacefully to join our creator on August 10, 2013. Born in Florence, Arizona on December 12, 1943, she later moved with her family to Tucson. Following graduation from Amphitheater High School and Northern Arizona University (a member of Gamma Phi Beta sorority), she taught kindergarten for the Department of Defense in Arizona, Nevada, Okinawa and Libya. Returning to the US, she lived in Tempe, AZ earning her master's degree from Arizona State University then teaching at East High School and South Mountain High School in the Phoenix Union School District. At South Mountain she developed a unique tutoring program for student athletes. Her greatest professional passion was encouraging these athletes in many ways, keeping them in school, academically eligible and prepared for future success. Several years after retirement she moved from Laveen, AZ back to Tucson to be closer to her family - sister, Linda Lou Sottnek; nieces and their husbands, Jeanne Wildman (Greg) and Julie Perez (Martin) and their children, Zach Wildman and Olivia Perez. She is also survived by cousins, Linda Ruth Griswold, Kay Moller, Eric, Ted and Jan Nelson and Ellen Louise Taylor. Karen and her parents, Orlinda Nelson Fiscel and Louis O'Neil Fiscel who predeceased her, were all members of Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church in Tucson. In her later years Karen was debilitated by multiple chemical sensitivities and a brain tumor. Many thanks to the people who helped her especially Rosa Garcia, her friend and caregiver, and Bob, Mark and all the others at the Bradford Home. Karen's greatest personal passion was for her dogs and many cats. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Humane Society of Southern Arizona, 3450 N. Kelvin Blvd., Tucson, AZ 85716. There will be an informal Gathering of Friends from 10:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m., Thursday, August 22, 2013 at BRING'S BROADWAY CHAPEL, 6910 E. Broadway Blvd.
