December 16th, 1924 - July 21st, 2013
Richard Pers, age 88, passed away Sunday, July 21, 2013. Survived by beloved wife: Dolores: son; Richard Steven of San Diego, CA: daughter; Lynn (Don) Krcmaric of Tucson: grandchildren; Matthew and Jordan Krcmaric of Tucson; Michelle and William Rembert of Manhattan Beach, CA: and many relatives, nieces and nephews, including Ken (Diana) Strnatka and great-nephew Kevin Strnatka of Tucson. Preceded in death by daughter, Cheryl L. Rembert; his parents, sisters and brothers. Born, December 16, 1924, in Hammond, IN. Served in the U.S. Army Armor Tank division in the Battle of the Bulge during WW II. Graduated from Northwestern University (accounting). He married Dolores Kokondy on August 29, 1953. Richard's career spanned Standard Oil, Pullman Standard, and the Lake County (IN) Plan Division. He was an avid golfer, fisherman, and Notre Dame fan. He was a life member of VFW Post 82 (IN); a member of American Legion Post #428 (IN); a member of the Battle of the Bulge Inc. Chapter 53, in Tucson; and the American Legion Post #36 in Tucson. Richard's life exemplified being a part of the "greatest generation". Visitation will be Thursday, July 25, 2013 from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. with Scriptures to start at 7:00 p.m. at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 1800 N. Camino Pio Decimo, Tucson, AZ. Funeral Mass services will be held Friday, July 26, 2013 at 9:30 a.m. at St. Pius X Church. Interment at the Southern Arizona Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Sierra Vista, AZ. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to ElderHaven Adult Care Home, a nonprofit corporation, 2501 N. Soldier Trail, Tucson, AZ 85749, in Memory of Richard Pers. We would also like to thank all the care givers and Bill and Jeannie Deyo for the wonderful love and care you gave Richard.
