John Clinton Edwards
April 19, 1941 – April 20, 2024
With family by his side, John Clinton Edwards quietly passed away on April 20, 2024, one day after his 83rd birthday.
The son of Robert F. and Mae Rose (McKernan) Edwards, John was born on April 19, 1941 in Wymore, Nebraska, he was the 4th of 8 children. In 1948 the family moved from Nebraska to Oregon, settling in Springfield Oregon. John attended elementary school at St. Mary’s in Eugene & graduated in 1959 from Springfield High School. He was active in the Boy Scouts of America, participating in the honorary “Order of the Arrow”, a Scouting National Honor Society. He served 2 years of active duty in the U.S. Navy on-board the USS Wedderburn, a Fletcher-class Destroyer.
John married Susan Parris in 1963. Three children were born to the couple, John Clinton, Jr (J.C.), George Scott & Crystal Ann. Following his divorce from Susan, he met Vicki in 1983. They married in 1990 in Minden, Nevada, as part of that union John eagerly took Vicki’s children, Tracy and Robby into his heart and family. As retirement neared, John felt the pull of ‘home.’ In 2003 they made the move to Oregon, buying enough acreage in Cottage Grove, allowing him to be a gentleman farmer.
John was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Michael Charles Edwards and Clarence Robert Edwards; sisters, Roberta Garr and Carol Straetz and stepson Robby Belluomini. He is survived by his children: J.C. Edwards, Scott Edwards, Crystal Edwards-Manuel and Tracy Brous, a brother James “Jim” Edwards and two sisters Anna Mae Stewart and Betty Aslin.
Memorial services will be held at Springfield Memorial Gardens and Mortuary at 1:00 pm on Friday, May 3. 2024, interment will follow.
