Leonard Altendorf, age 97, died peacefully after a short illness. Leonard was born in Grafton ND on September 19, 1924, the youngest child and only son of Lawrence and Frances (Pokrzywinski) Altendorf. He attended school in Grafton, ND. He is preceded in death by his parents; his siblings, Effie Altendorf Wesolowski, Irene Lizakowski, Helen Kasprick, and brother, Sylvester Altendorf. daughter Dianna Roth, and his beloved wife of 76 years, Donna Altendorf who passed away March 3, 2022. Leonard attended high school until age 14, when he joined his father in the farming business in Acton Township, ND, land that his grandfather John Altendorf purchased in 1888. He and his family survived the Great Depression and the Dust Bowls of 1936 and 1939. He met and married the love of his life, Donna (Brown) Altendorf in 1945. They were inseparable for 76 years. Like most men, Leonard enlisted into the military during WWII. During his active duty he was sent to the European Theatre of Ops and earned an EAME with 4 Bronze Stars, Good Conduct Ribbon, Combat Infantry Badge, Victory Medal WWII, and a Purple Heart. He served as a Mortar Gunner. Leonard was a member of St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church for many years. Leonard and Donna made their way from ND to CA in 1967 and then settled in Bullhead City, AZ for the last 44 years. They are missed by their many friends and family. Leonard is survived by his son, Larry (Andrea); daughter, Debra Griffith; daughter, Judy (Greg) Filip; daughter, Jacqueline (Rodney) Hughes; 15 grandchildren, Jimmy, Patrick, Dee Ann, Cindy, Keith, Ciara, Christopher, Holly, Christine, Nicole, Lisa, Tina, Shelby, Francine, and Ronald; 33 great-grandchildren; and 7 great-great-grandchildren. Graveside services for Leonard and Donna will be held at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona 23029 North Cave Creek Road Phoenix, Arizona 85024 on Tuesday, November 8, 2022 at 1:00 pm. In the end Leonard's love for Donna was all that mattered to him, and he wanted to be with her again. We hope they are having an enjoyable time together in Heaven.
