Samuel D. Hostetler
May 17th, 1930 - May 20th, 2013
Samuel D. Hostetler Jr. died May 20, 2013 at the age of 83. Samuel D. Hostetler Jr. was born May 17, 1930 to Sam and Mary Hostetler in Hubbard, Oregon. Samuel was primarily raised in the Hubbard vicinity, including Whiskey Hill and Needy. He moved to Cloverdale, Oregon for the first 2 years of high school, and then back to Whiskey Hill. He graduated elementary school at Whiskey Hill, and then Graduated from Canby Union High School in May 1948. Samuel married Luella E. Hansen on October 31, 1948 in Donald, Oregon. Samuel worked in clay product manufacturing till 1970. Then he did custom masonry work of stone and brick until his retirement. Samuel was an avid fisherman of many of Oregon's rivers, lakes and reservoirs. Samuel enjoyed hunting as well. Samuel raised a huge garden, enjoyed singing barbershop music as the tenor, also choral music. He was a member of Salem Senate-Aires; sang with the Calvary Mennonite Adult Chorus and Men's Chorus, and a mens quartet, and mixed quartet with his cousins. Samuel is survived by his wife; Luella E. Hostetler of Hubbard, OR.; Royce E. Hostetler (son) of Newport News, VA.; Susan K & Steve Burgess (daughter and son-in-law) of Sweet Home, OR.; Glenn D. and Heather Hostetler (son and daughter-in-law) of Newberg, OR.; Kenneth D. and Judy Hostetler (son and daughter-in-law) of Canby, OR.; Thomas W. and Debbie Hostetler (son and daughter-in-law) of Hubbard, OR.; Jim (James) and Donna Hostetler (son and daughter-in-law) of Canby, OR. 26 Grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren. Samuel was preceeded in death by parents Sam and Mary Hostetler, brother; Stanley Hostetler and son-Michael Roy Hostetler. There will be a Memorial Service for Samuel on June 1, 2013 at Zion Mennonite Church at 2:00 pm. Memorial contributions may be made to Bristol Hospice or charity of choice, in lieu of flowers.
