Helen "Patty" Patricia Mahaney
June 18th, 1927 - February 17th, 2019
Helen "Patty" Mahaney, age 91, of Davis, CA peacefully joined our Creator February 17, 2019. Born June 18, 1927 in San Jose, Illinois, she was the 6th of the 7 children of the late Monica and William Phalen. She is survived by her two children, Ann and Patrick, her son-in-law, Peter Meshot, her four grandchildren, Allison, Lauren, Isabel, and Gillian, and her sister, Roselen Lindemann and brother, William Phalen of San Diego, as well as many other loving relatives and friends. “Patty” was raised in Springfield, Illinois and proudly hailed from the "Land of Lincoln." She was well known in Springfield for her beautiful voice and she and her sister, Joanna, often sang together at weddings and other church events. She moved with her family to San Diego, CA as a teen where she graduated from high school and then began helping to support her family as a bookkeeper and office manager working in the insurance industry. After marrying her late husband, Jack, Pat's main focus was on family. She handled multiple family moves, first to Oklahoma, next back to California and three intrastate moves within the Golden State, on to Alaska, and then finally back to California again, settling in the Woodland-Davis area. After her children started grammar school, Pat, fiercely independent, was eager to continue her career in various office manager and bookkeeping positions. Pat never met a stranger. She related well to all, especially the young and young-at-heart. Pat loved her life in Davis taking long walks, talking to students and shopkeepers, and was loved and watched over by her neighbors. We are grateful to all of our friends and extended family who supported us while helping our mom maintain her sense of independence. Thank you to the senior health care professionals at Senior Care Solutions, Sutter Hospice and Soaring Oaks Residential Care Facility who, with dignity and respect, allowed our mom to be as independent as possible.
