David Lee Marshall
November 30th, 1946 - March 22nd, 2020
David was born on November 30, 1946, in Detroit, Michigan. He passed away on March 22, 2020 in Sacramento, California, due to complications of influenza and pneumonia. After graduating from high school in Grand Rapids and starting a family, David moved to Southern California in 1972. In 1985, he earned a degree in Business Management from Rancho Santiago College in Santa Ana and worked as a manager in several jobs. In 1993, David moved to Sacramento to be closer to his four children, who he loved dearly. He worked in the tech industry until a downturn in the economy. That did not keep David down for long; he went back to college and received a degree in Chemical Dependency Studies from American River College in 2007. David made many good friends in his nearly 19 years as a member of Alcoholics Anonymous (4/21/2001-3/22/2020). He loved his new career as an Alcohol and Drug counselor. He thoroughly enjoyed helping people, and his extensive knowledge of the Bible has changed the lives of many. David regretfully had to take an early retirement due to his diabetes and kidney disease. He spent the last 1½ years of his life, three days a week, going to kidney dialysis, where they called him the “life of the party!” Even under those circumstances, he could always make people smile. David was preceded in death by his parents, the Rev. David Marshall and Ruby Marshall, and three of his brothers, George Marshall, James Marshall and Wiley Marshall. He is survived by his wife Diane Marshall, daughter Brenda Marshall, sons David Marshall Jr., Michael Marshall and Andre Marshall; grandchildren Erica Marshall, Matthew Marshall and Amy Marshall, and great-granddaughters Ava and Kaya. He is also survived by his brother Robert (Joyce), sisters Gladys Ellis (Earl) and Gwenetta Brooks; sisters-in-law Vermell Marshall, Mary Marshall and Carolyn Marshall; a “special” cousin Darlene Harris, many other cousins and numerous “favorite” nieces and nephews.
