LARRY JERRY LIVINGSTON
October 29th, 1936 - November 28th, 2018
Larry J Livingston, 82, of Placerville, CA left us September 28 after suffering a catastrophic stroke. He never awakened after the surgery to remove two clots in the artery to his brain. He was in the NSICU at the UCDavis medical center in Sacramento, where he received excellent care and was made very comfortable. His wife of 52 years, Elaine Livingston, and his son Brandon, will miss him and remember his wonderful qualities always. Larry was born and raised in Montebello, California, in a rural area. His parents ran a small trailer park and raised four boys to be healthy and athletic. Larry’s older brothers, Howard and Cliff, played football in the NFL. Larry and his twin, Terry, played football in high school and college. Larry enjoyed football, but he loved art more. He graduated from Arizona State University in Tempe with a degree in Art, and continued his education at California State University at Los Angeles with a Master’s Degree in Art. He taught Art in four high schools, Jefferson and Locke in Los Angeles, and then Huntington Beach and Westminster in Orange County. He was well known for his set designs for the theater departments. He created his own art his entire life, with his favorite being three-dimensional art, especially lost wax cast metal (aluminum and bronze) sculpture. He has many sculptures, paintings, and ceramics in individual collections. He and Elaine loved to travel and attend cultural events. In 1970, he took a sabbatical and they toured Europe in a VW bus to see the famous art and architecture he had only studied in books. The year enriched his knowledge of great art and he passed his enthusiasm on to his students. He enjoyed being out in nature and had a sketchbook with him at all times when visiting some of the natural wonders of our country. He had a deep and contagious laugh that people loved. He was kind and compassionate and loved animals. A highlight of his life was adopting and raising his son, Brandon, who brought him the joy of fatherhood. He will be buried near his parents and his older brother with a graveside service at the Memory Gardens Memorial Park in Brea on Saturday, December 8, at 11:00 A.M. There will be a memorial service at Federated Church in Placerville on Saturday, January 19 at 11:00 A.M. Both services will be followed by small receptions on site. The family requests that instead of flowers, a donation may be made to the Michael J Fox Parkinson’s Foundation for Research.
