JAMES FREDERICK TRELEAVEN
October 2nd, 1931 - October 31st, 2020
James “Jim” Treleaven October 2, 1931 – Oct. 31, 2020 Jim Treleaven died in his sleep of renal failure Halloween morning, after a pain free and peaceful night at his home in Camino, Calif. He had struggled for years with dementia, a valiant fighter who despite his health, kept his kindness and humor. Jim was born in Detroit, Mich., on Oct. 2, 1931 and moved with his family to California when he was in high school and joined the U.S. Navy shortly thereafter. He had a variety of careers and interests over his lifetime. He was a signalman serving on the U.S. Navy Destroyer USS Grady during the Korean War. When he lived in Los Gatos, Calif., he was involved with The Santa Clara Valley Regional Group of The Horseless Carriage Club of America where he served as president in 1971. Jim restored a Model T and a Speedster during his club engagement and thoroughly enjoyed the club tours with his family and friends. Another interest he had was with PT (Patrol, Torpedo) boats. He even built a quarter scale PT boat which is now in a museum in Battleship Cove, Mass. It was the largest PT boat built after World War II and can be sailed by one person and uses a jet ski motor. Jim was also a square dance caller for 25 years and a leader in the dance community. The last job he had was as the owner of a company called Sierra Striping in Placerville, where he used his creative artistry in design. In retirement, Jim enjoyed traveling with his wife of 40 years, Sue Treleaven. Together they traveled throughout North America in an RV and shared a few international adventures with friends. Jim will be remembered for many things, but mostly for his great sense of humor. He was respected and loved by many and made friends everywhere he went. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather and he found great joy spending time with his family and friends. Jim is survived by his loving wife Sue Treleaven, children James Treleaven (Diane) of Vacaville, Calif., Jeffrey Treleaven of Placerville, Calif., and Alison Treleaven of Redondo Beach, Calif.; stepchildren Eric Knight (Deborah) of Oceanside, Calif., and Katy Knight (Mike Cordis) of Camino, Calif.; brother Sidney Treleaven (Barbara) of Roseville, Calif., and sister Helen Tapp (Marshall) of Sandpoint, Idaho; eight grandchildren Miranda Treleaven, Ian Treleaven (Shawna), Traci Treleaven, Alex Knight, Kevin Knight, Melissa Mayes (Geoff), Melody Elskes (John) and Matt Abreu; three great-grandchildren, Mina Chowdhury, Rylee Treleaven, Ezra Treleaven and his beloved dogs Buddy and Cheese. He is preceded in death by his parents Sidney and Edna Treleaven and siblings, William “Bill” Treleaven and Margaret “Peg” Bribes. Due to COVID-19, services will be held at a later date.
