Phyllis E Morgan

Tribute Phyllis was born in Goodland, Kansas, December 11, 1933 to Harry & Edna Fixsen. She grew up surrounded by the love of family with two brothers, one sister also aunts, uncles, cousins, grandparent’s, one great grandmother, one great grandfather, a great uncle and aunt. Growing up she loved animals and going to stay at the farm. Spring was time for baby chicks- you could always find her in the brooder house! She didn’t mind chores either, gathering eggs, watering & feeding chickens even feeding the pigs, helping in the garden when it rained she could “swim” in the lagoon which consisted of sliding around in the water on her tummy. She lived in town of course, so much time was spent playing dolls or with her pets usually a dog or a cat. Spent days playing “mud pies” or when neighbor kids came over they all played “anti over” or “statue”, jumped rope, played jacks or hop scotch – hide & seek was fun too or roller-skating. Sunday was a Sunday school day & going fishing in the evening with family or going to the grandparent’s farm. She was baptized when she was 16 and joined the Methodist church in Goodland, Kansas. She went to school in Goodland and graduated from Sherman County High School. After graduation she applied for a job in Washington, D.C. and worked there for the FBI for 1 ½ years. While there she meet Al Morgan who was a Marine stationed at the Quantico, Virginia base. They fell in love and were married February 15, 1953 in Goodland, Kansas. Cheryl Ann was born at Quantico, Virginia. Al was discharged when Cheryl was 6 weeks old- so they went to Lakeland, Florida where Al started learning the carpenter trade. After a year, they moved back to Goodland, KS, where Dewane Alan was born. Al continued building houses and they moved to Colorado where more building was taking place. First to Brighton then later to Wheatridge, CO. AL built their first home 5 miles from Golden, CO in 1962 they moved in. Julie Rachel was born in Wheatridge in 1967. They moved to Hygiene, CO that year and bought an old farmhouse with 3 acres. Julie Rachel died in 1987 and Al died in 2000. Cheryl A. Morgan died in 2011 During her lifetime, she led a Girl Scout troop, taught Sunday school for 20 or more years at home, attended a neighborhood Friendship Bible Coffee and enjoyed gardening & her yard with flowers. She loved making curtains and bedspreads to make a house a home; she sewed dresses for her girls and shirts for Dewane, quilts and painted with watercolor and oil paints, embroidered and stained glass. She loved to cook and take care of her family. She is survived by her son Dewane Morgan of Hygiene and her brother Everett Fixen. Grandchildren Christopher Morgan of Denver, Brook Morgan of Denver, Brandon Moquist of Longmont and Jarrod Moquist of Longmont. A graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 6, 2020 at Foothills Gardens of Memory.
