Erin Lynn Gormley was born September 6, 1983, in Providence, RI. She passed away suddenly and unexpectedly in Chico, CA on April 13, 2019 from pending and unknown causes. Erin is daughter of the late Linda. A Gormley and survived by her father Joseph H. Gormley, of Chico, CA, brother Scott W. Gormley, his wife Nicole L. Gormley and nieces Hailey and Brooklynn Gormley of Murrieta, CA; Uncle Bob Gormley and Auntie Thom Clegg (as she jokingly called him), of Delray Beach, FL; Auntie Claire Martucci of West Warwick, RI; Auntie Mel and Uncle Bill Luther, of Tolland, CT; Uncle Andy and Auntie Janet Hencler of Warwick, RI and several first cousins across the U.S. Erin is also survived by her boyfriend and love of her life, Jacob Hughes, Captain of the Alturas Rural Volunteer Fire Department and Engineer with Cal Fire. Jacob was going to propose to Erin the week she passed away. Many that have known Erin throughout the years will attest to her loving, free-spirit and love for life! Erin’s last act on this Earth lives on as an organ donor. Erin was the first recipient of Enloe Medical Center’s “Honor Walk”, by honoring her gift towards a second chance at life to several recipients, including a local Chico friend! Erin celebrated 3 years of sobriety as an active and proud member of Alcoholics Anonymous, sharing her life experiences, strength and hope with others whenever possible through various local groups and panels to help make the world a better place. Her personality was larger than life. She was an amazing daughter, sister, aunt, soon to be fiancée and friend that is loved by many and remembered for her unconditional love for all, humor and positive energy! Erin graduated from San Clemente High in 2001 and CSU, Chico in 2016 with a B.A. Degree in English, with an option in English Education. Erin aspired to become an English Professor in the near future with a strong passion for creative writing, poems, singing, hiking, attending music oncerts and sporting events. A “Celebration of Life” will be held on Saturday, April 27th, 2019 at 25 Bellarmine Court in Chico, CA from 1-4pm. All family, friends and loved ones are welcome to attend. The family requests donations in lieu of flowers are made to The Erin Gormley Memorial Fund, which can be found online at: bit.ly/ErinGormley Please consider helping out her loved ones through this difficult time as they navigate this tragedy and move forward in life. Donations will go directly to her brother Scott to help with coordinating end of life costs, her celebration of life service, family travel from across the United States and future expenses. Any excess funds not utilized will be donated in Erin’s honor towards local victims affected by The Camp Fire in Paradise, CA, which continues to affect the entire local community from the most destructive wildfire in California history to date.
